Outdoor adventure along the western slope of the Sierra is closely linked to water, and water is EID’s business. For years, we managed Sly Park Recreation Area — with Jenkinson Lake at its center — under contract with the Bureau of Reclamation, the federal agency that built the dams to form Jenkinson Lake as a major water supply. |

In 2003, negotiations
to buy the area were successfully concluded, and today we own and operate
the recreation area and lake. Sly Park is a popular destination for people
within the region and from more distant areas. Visitors enjoy various
activities — from camping, picnicking, boating, fishing and swimming
to hiking, biking and horseback riding.
The Recreation Department also operates recreational facilities associated with
our hydropower Project 184. At Silver Lake, our 48-unit campground normally has
a waiting list in peak summer months. Picnicking facilities are available at
Forebay, Caples Lake and Silver Lake, while Lake Aloha, Echo Lake and Horsetail
Falls provide access to some of the most popular back country hiking trails in
the region.
