This department is responsible for the District’s in-house safety and security functions, public information and community outreach, and customer and development services, including EID’s meter services and construction inspection programs. |

The department’s focus also centers on training
programs to ensure that EID continues to provide exceptional — and reliably
consistent — customer service. Our meter technicians, for example, are trained
not only to take accurate readings but also to spot trouble on both the customer
and District sides of the meter. Meanwhile, our safety and security officers
help maintain safe, effective operation of the District’s facilities and that
includes an intense, long-term, ongoing training schedule. Safety-related aspects
of EID’s overall employee training program, in conjunction with the District’s
employee wellness and health programs, have substantially reduced risks and
lowered worker-related insurance costs. Since 2003, the District has saved
nearly $3,000,000 in workers’ compensation insurance premiums.
Our public information and outreach employees are devoted to creating accurate,
lively information and education materials on issues such as water quality
and supply, drought preparedness, and rate structures. Through public workshops
and community presentations, we work to engage our customers and the larger
community in the District’s planning processes.
