ULTIMATE “Water Smart” Garden Makeover Contest

The Regional Water Authority and local water providers in the greater Sacramento area have partnered to create the ULTIMATE "Water Smart" Garden Makeover Contest. The contest is open to all homeowners whose water providers are members of the Regional Water Efficiency Program, which includes all EID and City of Placerville water service customers.

THE GRAND PRIZE is a makeover of the winner's front yard with a total prize valued at up to $40,000. SECOND PRIZE is a professionally designed, custom water wise landscape plan. THIRD PRIZE is two trees in 24-inch boxes. Completion of a landscape water survey is required to be eligible for the grand prize. You can enter by calling the "Be Water Smart" hotline at 888-WTR-TIPS (888-987-8477) or download an entry form and mail it to the address on the form. Entry forms must be received by June 16, 2008. Landscape Water Surveys

Water Wise House/Business Calls. This program offers a complimentary water-use survey your home or business to assist both EID and City of Placerville customers to identify any plumbing leaks and fine tune their irrigation schedules. A landscape only water survey includes a water meter pressure check and a complete inspection of your irrigation system. A customized report with water-saving recommendations is provided at the end of each survey, including a site-specific irrigation schedule. Program participants also receive a complimentary copy of our Water-Wise Gardening in the Gold Country Region CD and other water conservation publications.

Large Landscape Sub-metering Grant

FUNDING OPPORTUNITY. EID is the recipient of a Proposition 50 water efficiency grant for the “Commercial, Industrial, Institutional (CII), and Multi-Family Sub-Metering with ET Controller Project.” ET is evaporation and transpiration of moisture. Through this grant, EID is able to offer dedicated landscape sub-meters and the installation of "smart" irrigation controllers to EID or City of Placerville water service customers at no charge to the customer. CII and Multi-family customers currently on mixed use meters – both building and landscape water use is metered through the same meter – can apply for this grant project. Evaporation-Transpiration (ET) Controller Voucher Grant

 

To be launched in July 2008. EID is also the recipient of a Proposition 50 water efficiency grant for the “CII / Single and Multi Family ET Controller Installation Voucher Program.” Under this program, EID will install 1000 “smart” weather based irrigation controllers to qualifying EID and City of Placerville water service customers. The new ET controllers must replace a manual or automatic irrigation controller that irrigates at least 2000 square feet of area with high historical water usage. A landscape water survey will be required during the screening process.
