Drought Stage 2 actions are intended to increase public understanding of worsening water supply conditions, encourage community-oriented voluntary conservation measures, enforce some mandatory conservation measures, and implement water-use reduction measures to decrease "normal" demand by up to 30%.
If the Stage 2a voluntary phase is not effective, the Stage 2b mandatory phase will be implemented.
Customer Actions
Residential, commercial, and industrial customers
Stage 2a (voluntary)
Take actions under Stage 1 and:
Set a goal to
- reduce your indoor residential water use 30 percent from normal conditions and
- reduce water used for outside residential irrigation to approximately 55 percent of the amount used under normal conditions.
Set a goal to reduce water use by 20 percent from normal conditions in commercial, industrial, and institutional settings.
Use of water from fire hydrants, except for fire-fighting purposes, will be restricted.
Stage 2B (mandatory)
- Prohibitions include
- no watering of any existing turf grass, ornamental plants, gardens, landscaped areas, trees, shrubs, or other plants except by hand-held hose or container, drip irrigation system, or other EID-approved conservation practice;
- no watering of new turf grass or replacement turf grass;
- no initial filling of any swimming pool; and
- no serving of drinking water at dining establishments unless patrons request water.
Agricultural customers
- All non-IMS agricultural customers must have a conservation plan on file or reduce their water use by 30 percent.
- IMS customers must follow their IMS irrigation plans.
EID Actions
- Drought team provides monthly updates on drought status to EID Board and the public.
- Monitor water demand monthly to determine if goals are being reached.
- Continue community drought awareness program, focusing on water-use reduction goals and the range of voluntary steps to accomplish savings.
- Identify EID properties with high fire risk and manage accordingly.
- Halt use of fire pits and barbeques at EID’s recreation facilities.
