The objectives of Stage 3 actions are to reduce water demand by at least 50 percent from normal conditions through effective and consistent public outreach, enforce extensive restrictions on water use, and implement water rationing. The goal is protection of the water supply for public health and safety purposes.

Customer Actions

Residential, commercial, and industrial customers

Take actions under Stages 1 and 2, plus those that follow.

  • Residential meters will be allotted up to 50 percent of the amount used by the customer during the corresponding billing period under normal conditions.
  • Irrigation-only meters will be allotted 35 percent of the amount used by the customer during the corresponding billing period under normal conditions.
  • Meters serving any non-residential use will be allotted 60 percent of the amount used by the customer during the corresponding billing period under normal conditions.

Agricultural customers

  • All non-IMS ag customers must have a conservation plan on file or reduce their water use by 50 percent. Financial penalties apply to non-compliance.
  • IMS customers must follow the IMS irrigation plan or face financial penalty.

EID Actions

  • Drought team provides weekly updates on drought status to EID Board at every Board meeting.
  • Monitor water demand weekly to determine if goals are being reached.
  • Provide customers and general public with weekly updates on current drought stage and on progress in meeting the water-savings goal.
  • Provide monthly updates to the public on community demand-response status.
  • Increase patrols to identify water waste practices.
