FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Placerville, Calif. — For the month of November, EID customers reduced their water use by 40 percent compared to November 2013.
EID is required to reduce its water consumption by 28 percent from June 2015 through February 2016, compared to the same months in 2013, under a mandate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board.
“A forty percent conservation rate for November is really outstanding,” said EID Public Information Officer Jesse Saich. “Even more so now that we are into the cooler, wetter season. Going forward, most of our water savings will likely continue to be found inside the home.”
Outside watering is restricted to just one day per week through April 15, 2016. Customers with addresses ending in odd numbers can water on Saturdays and those with even numbered addresses can water on Sundays.
“Our customers know their landscapes and some folks may be able to cease watering altogether over the winter,” said Saich.
The district offers a number of programs and services to help residents and businesses conserve. And because the outside irrigation is limited over the winter and into spring, any savings will be found inside homes or businesses. This includes home landscape water surveys and indoor water efficiency supplies.
“EID offers complimentary supplies to help reduce water use inside of the home,” said Jenny Downey, EID’s customer services manager.
Indoor upgrades include plumbing retrofits (low-flow showerheads, bathroom faucet aerators, and toilet tank bags), toilet flappers, and a toilet leak detection kit.
“Toilet leaks can account for significant loss inside the home—and they are among the hardest leaks to detect,” said Downey. “Using our toilet leak detection kit—or even just putting some food coloring in the toilet tank—will help identify those hidden leaks.” Detailed instructions can be found on EID’s website at www.eid.org/leaks.
Customers can pick up the water efficiency supplies at EID’s Placerville headquarters between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
Additional information is available on EID’s website at www.eid.org/drought along with ideas for how customers can save water inside and outside of their homes or businesses.
