FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Placerville, Calif. — With the Memorial Day weekend approaching and warmer weather ahead, EID urges a cautious approach to local rivers and lakes, including the South Fork and Silver Fork American River, as well as Jenkinson Lake at Sly Park Recreation Area. “This year’s snowpack has been considerable,” said Dan Downey, EID’s hydroelectric division manager. “And with the cold and wet spring we’ve experienced, it’s important to be mindful of increased flows and frigid temperatures of the water.”
Weather for the Memorial Day weekend is likely to be pleasant and warm, but jumping into snow-cold water can shock a person’s body and reduce their ability to effectively swim.
EID is a public agency dedicated to providing high quality water, wastewater treatment, recycled water, hydropower, and recreation services in an environmentally and fiscally responsible manner.
