EID’s El Dorado Main No. 2 (EDM-2) water transmission main was partially exposed when a landslide affected the hillside it is buried in earlier this week. The landslide resulted in the closure of Highway 193, just north of Placerville off of Highway 49.

During a special meeting held on February 13, 2017, the El Dorado Irrigation District (EID) Board of Directors adopted a resolution declaring an emergency to address damaged District facilities. The emergency was called in response to the intense rainfall that has saturated soils, overwhelmed sewer facilities and caused collapses, soil failures, and earth movement affecting vital District infrastructure and threatening to disrupt the District’s ability to provide essential public services.

It is a pleasure to write these words after having been on a medical leave of absence from EID. Facing medical challenges can focus the mind and provide a new vantage point for addressing immediate and future challenges. So it is not only a pleasure to return to the important challenges facing an organization of EID’s scope and complexity, it’s also a distinct pleasure to resume working with the men and women who make the district run smoothly and efficiently.

On December 22, 2016, EID was notified that it had received the District Transparency Certificate of Excellence by the Special District Leadership Foundation (SDLF) in recognition of its “outstanding efforts to promote transparency and good governance.”

The Upper Main Ditch Piping Project includes piping a three-mile section of water supply ditch in Pollock Pines with a buried pipeline. The ditch conveys up to 15,080 acre-feet of raw water each year from Forebay Reservoir to EID’s Reservoir 1 Water Treatment Plant in Pollock Pines.

There are a couple of ways to turn off the water at your property. It's important to plan ahead, if you have a water emergency be sure you know where your shut-off valve is.

Cold temperatures are predicted tonight and the throughout the weekend. There are several effective ways to prevent pipes from freezing, including keeping the interior temperature from dropping below 32 degrees and properly insulating the space. Check out our maintenance webpage on "Frozen Pipes".

A capital improvement plan (CIP) is a five-year plan that is updated each year to identify and plan for necessary improvements that ensure the safety and reliability of EID’s infrastructure. The board of directors reviews and adopts an updated plan every year, and subsequently considers and approves funding for specific projects included in the plan throughout the year.

With over 45,000 meters in a 220-square mile service area, you may wonder how EID reads every meter. We start by being very efficient and develop meter routes that are in line with EID’s eight billing cycles.
