Michael Raffety retired in February 2015 after 37 years with the Mountain Democrat, 29 as editor. He has a BA, an MA and a Certificate of Advanced Accounting. A small farmer, he won election to the Division 3 seat on the El Dorado Irrigation District board Nov. 8, 2016. He served as the EID board vice president in 2017. At the December 11, 2017 meeting he was selected to serve as the current board president through 2018. Michael is also a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he was an aviation electronics technician, served on an aircraft carrier, and was also stationed at McMurdo Station in Antarctica.
