EID's recreation facilities offer some of the most rewarding fishing opportunities in the region.
Jenkinson Lake (Sly Park Recreation Area) [directions]
Jenkinson Lake offers rainbow, German brown, kamloop, and mackinaw (lake) trout; largemouth and smallmouth bass; and bluegill through a successful fish planting program operated by the California Department of Fish and Game. You must have a valid California fishing license to fish in the lake; limits include 5 trout and 5 bass.
Forebay Reservoir [directions]
This delightful picnic area with fishing access is popular with local residents and visitors from afar. Forebay Reservoir was initially created to regulate water flow to EID’s hydroelectric power generation facility, but it is also a great daytime recreation spot—perfect for barbeques, quiet walks, and fishing. The area is located on Forebay Road in Pollock Pines, just off Pony Express Trail at Highway 50’s Sly Park Road exit. The area is open from dawn to dusk.
Swimming or body contact of any kind is not allowed in the reservoir.
Silver Lake [directions]
Located at 7200 feet in elevation right off Highway 88, Silver Lake is a sparkling gem set in a large granite basin — a perfect setting for family outings. The lake’s history includes use as a resting spot on the Emigrant Trail that was forged by the legendary Kit Carson. Sandy Cove and Ferguson Point picnic areas at the lake provide parking, picnic tables, vault toilets, barbecues, and lake access.
Caples Lake [directions]
Located at 7950 feet in elevation and surrounded by granite peaks, fir, pine, and groves of aspen and alder, Caples Lake is pure joy for the photographer and avid angler. At the west end of the lake, Caples Lake Trailhead/auxiliary dam has parking, vault toilets, fishing, and trail access to the backcountry. The east side provides a boat launch facility that has ample parking for your boat and truck, handicap accessibility, picnic area, and vault toilets.
