FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Placerville, Calif. — In August, El Dorado Irrigation District began the process of analyzing the population in each of its five electoral divisions to determine how the population had changed in light of new census data. This process is known as redistricting.

All jurisdictions that have electoral divisions, including special districts like EID’s Board of Directors, must equalize the populations of their respective divisions every 10 years following the decennial federal census. Redistricting is the process of adjusting the division boundaries to ensure that all divisions have equal populations and are in compliance with all state and federal laws.

“District staff are working to create division boundary alternatives that comply with all mandatory criteria,” said EID General Counsel Brian Poulsen. “Analysis of demographic changes help ensure the population in each EID division is equally distributed.”

With census data in hand, an interdepartmental team of EID employees headed by the legal department has begun the process of identifying population changes across EID’s electoral divisions. The process must be completed by April 17, 2022, in advance of the next election in November of 2022.

The District is committed to including public participation into the redistricting process. The following methods can be used as the redistricting effort continues to submit written comments or information including maps or communities of interest.

  • Webpage www.EID.org/Redistricting.
  • Email written comments or other materials to Redistricting@EID.org.
  • Please include the meeting date and information type (e.g., redistricting – proposed map, redistricting – community(ies) of interest, redistricting – comment/information). Contact information is optional.
