Beginning April 21, 2025, there are boat launch restrictions at Jenkinson Lake within the Sly Park Recreation Area (SPRA) in Pollock Pines. The restrictions are to help prevent the introduction of invasive golden mussels and protect critical drinking water infrastructure.

Due to conditions at Caples and Silver Lakes, at this time prevention efforts at these reservoirs will focus on outreach and education, similar to other partner high elevation reservoir operations with conditions less conducive to establishment of the invasive golden mussels.

As more information and programs are available, we will update the District's dedicated webpage, www.EID.org/Boating. We encourage you to refer to that page for the more up to date information on boating restrictions.

EID to Implement Boating Restrictions at Sly Park Recreation Area/Jenkinson Lake

Pollock Pines, Calif. – Beginning April 21, 2025, El Dorado Irrigation District (EID/District) will implement new boat launching restrictions at Jenkinson Lake within the Sly Park Recreation Area (SPRA) in Pollock Pines to help prevent the introduction of invasive golden mussels and protect critical drinking water infrastructure.

The action comes as water agencies across the region increase restrictions to guard against the spread of invasive mussels, recently detected in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. These mussels can rapidly colonize and clog water intakes and treatment facilities, threatening water quality and delivery systems.

“Golden mussels pose a serious risk to freshwater ecosystems and the infrastructure that support our community’s water supply,” said EID General Manager Jim Abercrombie. “By actively managing boat launching at SPRA, we’re protecting District infrastructure while doing our part to support a broader regional effort.”

Beginning April 21, 2025, the following measures will take effect at SPRA:

  • Boat launching will only be permitted for boats with an intact decontamination seal and receipt from an approved inspection station, or
  • Boaters without an approved inspection must undergo a 30-day quarantine period, during which boats must remain sealed with a District tag and out of the water.
  • After verification of decontamination or completion of a 30-day quarantine, boats that last launched at SPRA may be sealed before exiting and may re-enter without additional quarantine if the seal remains intact.
  • Non-motorized vessels such as kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards are exempt if determined to be clean, drained, and dry.

EID staff is available to conduct quarantine inspections and tagging starting April 15 at SPRA in Pollock Pines. During initial efforts, inspections and tagging will also be available at EID’s headquarters in Placerville.

For additional information and updates, as well as times and dates of inspections and tagging, please refer to the dedicated District webpage www.EID.org/Boating.
