100 Years of Reslilience

For a century, EID has faced floods, droughts, wildfires, landslides, and invasive species, along with the complexities of changing laws and regulations. These trials have not stopped us, they’ve made us stronger. Each challenge has sparked innovation, strengthened our systems, and reminded us of the responsibility we carry to our community.

Caldor Fire: A Test of Strength""

In 2021, the Caldor Fire destroyed four of our raw water conveyance flumes and threatened critical water supplies. Thanks to the dedication of our staff and support from emergency partners, we maintained service for all customers and quickly replaced damaged infrastructure. The lessons from that experience continue to guide our wildfire preparedness and response today.

Protecting Against New Threats

Some challenges aren’t fire or flood—they’re invasive species. Golden mussels, a fast-spreading threat to California’s water systems, are now closer than ever. To protect Sly Park/Jenkinson Lake, EID has taken proactive steps, including boat launching restrictions. These actions aren’t always easy, but they’re necessary to ensure clean, reliable water for the future.

""Looking Forward

Adversity has shaped EID’s story for 100 years. From past disasters to modern-day threats, every test has helped build a stronger, more resilient District. As we celebrate our centennial, we honor the challenges that defined us and remain committed to meeting the next century with the same resilience that has carried us this far.
