Part of EID's Hydro Project 184 Recreation - Located in Amador County Off Hwy 88
|
Beginning April 21, 2025, there are boat launch restrictions at Jenkinson Lake within the Sly Park Recreation Area (SPRA) in Pollock Pines. The restrictions are to help prevent the introduction of invasive golden mussels and protect critical drinking water infrastructure. Due to conditions at Caples and Silver Lakes, at this time prevention efforts at these reservoirs will focus on outreach and education, similar to other partner high elevation reservoir operations with conditions less conducive to establishment of the invasive golden mussels. As more information and programs are available we will update the District's dedicated webpage, www.EID.org/Boating.We encourage you to refer to that page for the more up to date information on boating restrictions. |
Caples Lake is located just off Highway 88 In Alpine County. EID Operates the lake as part of the our hydroelectric Project 184. As part of our license with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and in agreement and in cooperation with the Eldorado National Forest we also manage a boat launch, day-use areas, restrooms, and limited lake access.
This high-elevation reservoir (7,800 feet) offers an excellent high alpine getaway. The predominate activity is trout fishing. The area also offers scenic picnicking areas, boating, and access to trails entering the Mokelumne Wilderness. Afternoon winds are common here which makes it a great location for sailing.
Weather permitting, the boat launch and day use facility is open May through October.
The auxiliary dam features a small area for day-use parking and restrooms.
