Does EID operate all Recreation on Silver and Caples Lake?
No, EID only operates certain facilities mentioned on our website. The appropriate counties have jurisdiction on the waters. Recreational access can be from a variety of sources so it is important to know where you are.
How many vehicles can I have in my campsite?
The reservation pays for the first vehicle in the site; most sites have room for one more vehicle.
Parking is very limited and carpooling is encouraged. If you are camping at Sly Park Recreation Area you can call our reservation office at (530) 295-6810 to see if there is room for more that two vehicles at the site you are reserving.
Additional vehicles will need to pay fees when they arrive, please see our fee schedule for current costs.
How many people can I have in my campsite?
While camping at Sly Park Recreation Area you may have up to 8 people in an individual site.
At Silver Lake West Campground there is a maximum of 6 per campsite.
What is your cancellation policy?
Individual site cancellations can be made up to 4 days prior to your arrival date. Cancellation fee is $15. Reservation and Change fees are not refundable. No refunds or changes within 4 days of arrival.
Group site and Event Center cancellations can be made up to 14 days prior to your arrival date. Cancellation fee is $50. Reservation and Change fees are not refundable. No refunds or changes within 14 days of arrival.
Do you allow campfires?
Campfires are allowed in the designated fire ring, the fire cannot exceed the size of the ring, the flames cannot be more than 3 feet tall and the wood cannot be more than 6 inches around.
Do you have showers?
No, we do not have shower facilities.
Do you have hookups?
No, we do not have hookups. No electricity is available.
Sly Park Recreation Areas does have a septic dump station you can use (included with the price of the campsite). If you are camping at Silver Lake West and drive by Sly Park Recreation Area on your way home, you may utilize the dump station there at no charge with proof of your stay.
Water spigots are available to fill your tank but you cannot stay connected.
Can I run a generator?
Sly Park Recreation Area: Generator hours are limited to 7am to 9am, Noon to 2pm and 5pm to 8pm only.
Silver Lake West Campground: Hours are limited from 8am to 8pm. Guests are asked to keep the duration of run time to a minimum.
How far away is a grocery store?
Sly Park Recreation Area:
The closest store is at Sly Park Resort's General Store that is across the street from the main entrance to the park. It is a small store that also hosts a bar and restaurant.
There is also a Safeway in Pollock Pines, approximately 4.5 miles north at the end of Sly Park Road on Pony Express Trail.
Highway 88 Recreation: Silver Lake West Campground, Silver and Caples Lakes
Bears have not been a problem in the campgrounds. It is always a good idea to put away food and garbage at night for the other critters that can be troublesome (like squirrels, raccoons or birds).
Silver Lake West Campground:

Where can I park my boat trailer?
Sly Park Recreation Area:
You may leave your trailer in your campsite unless you do not have room. We also have a designated parking area for boats trailers or you can leave it in the boat launch parking lot. When you arrive the gatehouse can give you directions.
Highway 88 Recreation: Silver Lake West Campground, Caples, and Silver lakes
While camping at Silver Lake West it is preferred to park in you site, but it is tight. Silver Lake West does have limited additional parking that is first come, first served. Leaving your boat trailer in the day-use areas overnight is prohibited.
If you are using the Caples or Silver lakes boat launch for day-use only, you may leave your trailer and rig in the parking lot while you are out enjoying the lake.
Do you have Wi-Fi at the lake or in the campground?
Do you have cell phone reception in the campground?
Sly Park Recreation Area: There is limited cell phone reception near the entrance of the park. The signal diminishes as you travel into the park.
Silver Lake West Campground: No cell coverage.
We are staying in the Group Area, do we have to pay the Day Use fee for the main park?
When camping with a group at Sly Park the fee covers one vehicle. Additional vehicles need to pay the day-use fee upon arrival. Please see our fee schedule for costs.
How do I get to the waterfall?
The trailhead for the waterfall starts at the Bumpy Meadows parking lot just past the second dam, off Mormon Emigrant Trail. This is a $5 self-pay day use area. It is approximately three miles each way. Click link for the Trail Map.
The waterfall flow usually stops mid-June through the fall. For current flow information go to the Jenkinson Lake Streamflow Information page and select Jenkinson Lake Waterfall in the drop down menu.
Please note: When the lake is full the waterfall gets shut off. In addition, there are other circumstances that require that the waterfall is shut off. Please check the website or call the Gatehouse to see if the waterfall is flowing.
Why can't my dog go in the water?
Jenkinson Lake is a drinking water reservoir and our State Drinking Water Agreement prohibits domestic animals in the water or streams.
Are day-use fees included in the camping?
Yes. When camping at Silver Lake West or at Sly Park Recreation Area your camping fee includes one vehicle for the duration of your stay. Your pass is also good at any of EID's facilities so you can go to Silver Lake or Caples Lake also.
Additional vehicles will need to pay a daily use fee when they arrive. Parking is limited, we encourage carpooling.
